Far Cry Fly composes and performs original music. "Just because we’re a duo, people assume
we’re acoustic folk," says guitarist Jeff Houser, "but that isn’t a complete picture. We
fill out our sound with guitar effects and hand percussion. The congas have become a driving
source of energy during our shows. We may fit nicely on stage with singer/songwriter
acts, but can also hold our own against any bands."
Singer/Lyricist/percussionist Lori Skye started singing
when she was three years old and hasn’t stopped since.
"Singing Aretha Franklin’s ‘Chain of Fools’ at a Karaoke bar
was once my only means of getting up on stage, now I’m doing
something worthwhile with my gift." She draws from influences
such as Guster, the Indigo Girls, Billy Joel, and Toad
the Wet Sprocket. Lori’s voice has been compared to Natalie
Merchant and Gwen Stefani, but she states she doesn’t sound like anyone but
herself. She rounds out Far Cry Fly’s sounds by using a wide array of percussive instruments.
Her songs tell stories that illustrate universal topics like love, anger, fear, and happiness.
"I don’t think I fit the persona of a rock star,” she says when asked about herself,
I’m like the girl next door."
Guitarist/songwriter Jeff Houser has a wide array of influences ranging
from the modern rock sounds of Nirvana and Soul Asylum to
country artists such as Garth Brooks and Harry Chapin. He has been
playing guitar for over six years and has a developed a playing style
somewhere between Tom Petty and Dave Matthews. Jeff also plays
bass, piano, and has been known to open his mouth during a show on
occasion. "I like to write songs that tell stories." says Jeff in a recent
interview. "A lot of our music has happy music, but sad or melodramatic
stories."
